| A Little Event History... |
The seeds of success have been planted and the 36th
Anniversary of the Strawberry Festival promises to be the best
ever!
What began in 1973 as a one-day event on the grounds of the Coatesville
City Hall, has grown into a four-day extravaganza on the ground
of Brandywine Hospital attracting over 25,000 guests. Originally
organized by the nurses at the Coatesville Hospital to raise funds
for a nursing scholarship, the festival grew to be one of Brandywine
Hospital’s
most successful fund raising events.
Although Brandywine Hospital
still hosts the Festival and generously donates over $20,000 in
in-kind services, since the Hospital’s sale to a for-profit owner,
the Strawberry Festival now benefits a variety of health and human
service organizations in the community through the Brandywine Health
Foundation, as well as the Coatesville Rotary, the Thorndale Volunteer
Fire Company, the Brandywine YMCA, and the Coatesville Public Library.
Exciting plans are in the works for 2007! Kids of all ages will
enjoy the rides and on-going entertainment on the main stage. Young
festival visitors will flock to Strawberryland, which will feature
a petting zoo, moon bounce, rock wall, trackless train and much
more. Everyone will enjoy the vast array of festival food including
our famous strawberry shortcake, a festival tradition.
And, your
time at the festival would not be complete without strolling thought
the aisles of our craft fair featuring a wide variety of local
and national craft vendors. Finally, to help make this anniversary
celebration even more special, Coatesville Savings Bank is sponsoring
an even bigger and better fireworks extravaganza on Friday, June
1st.
Proceeds for the 2007 Rouse/Chamberlin Homes Strawberry Festival
benefit the Brandywine Health Foundation. Since its founding in
2001, the Brandywine Health Foundation has provided over $3.6 million
in grants to non-profits improving the health of the residents
of central and western Chester County. Its largest grant of $1
million was to open a Federally Qualified Health Center in the
City of Coatesville - ChesPenn Health Services. ChesPenn and Community
Dental will be housed in the Foundation’s planned Brandywine Health & Housing
Center, set to begin construction in December, 2006. |
