The Brandywine Health Foundation has announced 23 grants totaling $416,000, bringing the Foundation’s total giving since it began awarding grants and scholarships in 2002 to $16,204,093 in the Foundation’s Fifteenth Anniversary year.
“Our community is very fortunate to have so many strong and effective non-profits here in Coatesville. I applaud the efforts of our grantmaking committee, led by Margaret Rivello, Executive Director of the Free Clinic Association of Pennsylvania and former Director of the Chester County Health Department. This committee’s thoughtful and detailed review of each proposal led to the foundation’s Board of Directors unanimous approval of 23 critically important grants,” commented Dana M. Heiman, Interim CEO. Since 2001, the Brandywine Health Foundation has had a transformational impact on some of the toughest national problems right here in our local community. Heiman continued, “.”
The Brandywine Health Foundation believes everyone deserves to be healthy and to grow up in a vibrant community. The challenge is that the greater Coatesville area has significant disparities in health based on race, income, ethnicity and geography. The foundation is changing lives and building a healthy community by: investing in organizations that help people live healthier lives; investing in our young people; investing in projects that help Coatesville thrive; and bringing community members together to develop new solutions and new leaders for positive and lasting change in Coatesville.

The Brandywine Health Foundation is seeking youth between the ages of 14 and 18 to join the Coatesville Area Youth Philanthropy Program (CAYPP). Teens who are accepted to the program will act as board members and program officers for a special fund, which is generously underwritten by Citadel. The CAYPP members will learn new non-profit and business skills and will have the opportunity to lead and make important funding decisions for area non-profits. This year, CAYPP will include more opportunities for the youth to get involved and give back to the Greater Coatesville community. Check out the application here and please share with others you think might be interested.
Beginning in the fall, the 12-15 members selected to be a part of CAYPP will meet regularly throughout the school year to learn how philanthropy works, and research and discuss a myriad of possible philanthropic goals to improve their community before deciding to fund programs that focus on improving public safety.
